OAAA WEBINAR

Independent's Service's Allan Atkins recently co-hosted an OAAA webinar along with Circle Graphics Rod Rackley.

The webinar focused on the Out of Home industry's standards and practices for dealing with art and art files, described the course of a design through production in each presenters' facility, and addressed some FAQs about the printing industry.

Check out the webinar here, or view the powerpoint slides here.

SINCE 1940

OUR HISTORY

Independent's Service Company has been serving the outdoor advertising needs of America since 1940. Our company began with one small screen print press, printing billboards for the Independent Baker's Association, which is the origin of the company's name.

The family-owned company today is run by the third and fourth generations of the founder, Frank Berry. Over the years, one screen press in a small shop evolved into a company employing many skilled workers. Today, the silk-screen presses have been replaced by a number of state-of-the-art, grand format, digital printers.

Independent's Service Company now produces large format graphics for the full gamut of America's large and small billboard companies, printing houses, sign shops, and individuals, along with some of the country's most prestigious advertising agencies.

AND OUR PRESENT

Today we are a proud member of the outdoor advertising community's foundation. We serve our customers with high quality printing, and an increasing diversification and modernization of products. We specialize in quality, top-notch customer care that hasn't changed in our 70+ years of doing business, and won't in the future.

What We Print

Independent's Service Company produces graphics for billboards, single-sheet PE posters, transit advertisements, banners, events, trade show displays, and diverse other large- and grand-format. We print vinyl billboards and banners, and traditional paper posters (30-sheets). We work on custom projects at every size, not covered by the standards, for special events, transportation-fleet graphics, and more.

What We Print On

Our standard substrates include vinyl, woven polyethylene, mesh, paper, and numerous other flexible and rigid substrates. For specialty projects we have access to an even greater variety of substrates. Our printers are state-of-the-art, high-resolution, digital grand-format. We have roll-to-roll printers, drum printers, and flat-bed printers capable of printing on rigid-substrates up to two inches thick. We print in bright, high-resolution color-process.

File Setup

Please build your file in CMYK. Preferably, black elements should be rendered at C:40 M:40 Y:25 K:95, as this combination has been shown to yield the richest black.

Please convert all fonts to outlines, or be sure to include fonts in the file package.

File Scaling

The following templates are organized into vinyl, single sheet poster, paper, and transit categories. Please note that within the dimensions, height is always the first number, and width the second (H × W). For all templates except those under the ‘Transit’ section, 300dpi is the minimum recommended resolution. Because the templates for transit graphics are set up at a 1:1 scale, their minimum recommended resolution is 200dpi.

Vinyl Bulletins

vinyl bulletin templates are set up at a 1":1' scale. An additional one inch in both dimensions is included in the file for bleed. At this scale, a resolution of 300dpi is the minimum recom-
mended for all files contained.

Vinyl billboards with pole pockets typcially require 6" bleed on all sides. They are marked in the above templates. If you supply artwork without bleed included, we will add it. It is important to keep this in mind when cropping/placing photos.

File Uploads

We are able to accept files up to 300MB through our online ordering system. You can compress your file to obtain a lighter size, however, typically a 300MB file will yield a quite sufficient resolution for any size project. If there is some reason you feel the file must be kept at a size larger than this, we suggest you mail us a disk.

Please name your files, alpha-numerically, using underscores for spaces, as this will result in the smoothest file portability.

We can accept files formatted for all major graphics applications, in their lastest versions: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Macromedia Freehand, QuarkXPress, and CorelDraw. Following is a list of all the extensions our online order page is able to accept:
